Over the next year, extraordinary celestial events will unfold. This sequence includes four notable lunar phenomena, two of which coincide directly with significant Jewish holidays.
The series begins with a total lunar eclipse, often referred to as a "blood moon," visible across the United States in the early hours of March 14, 2025. Remarkably, this eclipse aligns precisely with the Jewish festival of Purim, commemorating the deliverance of the Jewish people from annihilation in the ancient Persian Empire (modern-day Iran), as recounted in the biblical story of Esther.
The total lunar eclipse will be visible throughout the U.S. on the night of March 13-14. If you live in the U.S., the eclipse begins late on the night of March 13. At 1:13 a.m. ET/ 00:13 CST the partial eclipse begins as the moon enters Earth's umbra, becoming gradually darker as if a bite is taken from it. Totality, when the moon appears red as a "blood moon," occurs at 2:26 a.m. ET/ 1:26 a.m. CST.
Historically, occurrences of these "blood moon tetrads"—sets of four consecutive lunar eclipses—have coincided with pivotal moments in Jewish history.
Notably, three tetrads in the past millennium have aligned closely with transformative events for Israel:
In 1493-1494, following the 1492 expulsion of Jews from Spain and Columbus’s discovery of America, a future refuge for Jewish communities.
In 1949-1950, shortly after the historic establishment of Israel as a nation in 1948, fulfilling the prophetic vision outlined in Jeremiah 16:15—"For I will restore them to their own land which I gave to their fathers."
In 1967-1968, coinciding with Israel's pivotal recapture of Jerusalem during the Six-Day War, widely viewed as a necessary step toward the prophesied construction of the Jewish Third Temple (the Second Temple having been destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D.)
A Sunrise Solar Eclipse From North America
When: March 29, 2025
North America will witness an unusual sunrise solar eclipse on March 29, 2025. Parts of the continent will see the sun rising as a crescent with two distinct “horns” on the horizon—a stunning sight for early risers. Europe will experience this eclipse mid-morning, with varying intensity depending on location. Dublin and Edinburgh will have approximately 41% and 40% of the sun obscured, respectively. Observers must use solar eclipse glasses and solar filters to view the event safely.
Following this, another blood moon will occur in the fall of 2025, shortly before the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. The third eclipse in the series will again align with Purim on March 3, 2026.
Looking ahead, another blood moon tetrad will take place in 2032-2033, precisely two millennia after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Significantly, the final two eclipses of this tetrad will fall on important Jewish festivals—Passover on April 14, 2033, and Sukkot on October 8, 2033. Additionally, a rare total solar eclipse will occur in the midst of this tetrad on March 30, 2033.
